The Samadhilegacy Foundation hasn't added a story.
I have known Kathy Benson for eight years. We met on Facebook. We
both found out, the very same week, about the horrors that
were happening to our homeless pets.
Life for both of us changed
right then. At that time Kathy had a VERY nice life. She had an
amazing career, an amazing paycheck and was setting herself up for
early retirement. Then Henry and Tennyson came along. She saw their
beautiful faces on Facebook and fell in love. Two sweet frightened pit
bulls. Trapped in a cage in a high kill shelter. She couldn't look the
other way.
She stepped up and rescued them. It was beyond brave.
Like most of us in rescue, saving these sweet dogs became an enormous
part of her life.
Her job took her out of the country a lot. She
had to work more now, as very quickly two rescue dogs became
14.
The early retirement went out of the window along with her
savings. All of her money goes into her rescue. Because today she has
between 45-55 dogs, mostly pitties, under her care.
So life
changed drastically for her, why does she do it? Because she cannot
bare the thought of these poor dogs being dragged to the kill rooms,
frightened and alone.
So she saves as many as she can and helps
other rescues and individuals with their pets along the way.
I've
heard Kathy being called a hero. I've heard others call her an angel.
To me she is both and my friend.
We as advocates have a
challenging life; we see and hear terrible things every day happening
to these poor defenseless, voiceless animals. We are never too proud
to ask for help for them. It truly take a village to save every
one.
It starts with people who network them tirelessly for hours
everyday. Just hoping a rescue or adopter will step up. Then
pullers will rush to the shelters to get them out for the rescues.
Transporters will drive them hundreds of miles to their rescues.
Donators like you who generously support the rescue's growing bills.
The top of the totem pole? The brave and amazing rescues. That is
who Kathy Benson is; one of the greats; founder of The Samadhi Legacy
Foundation. Today is her birthday. What does she want. Flowers?
Chocolates? Jewelry? No; that doesn't matter to Kathy; she wants
donations to get Ben's chipped tooth fixed, she wants donations for a
great trainer for Max who cannot be adopted till he is rehabilitated.
She wants donations for Cooper who needs ear surgery. So please wish
Kathy Benson, an angel to our homeless pets, a Happy Birthday and make
a donation to her Birthday Fundraiser. Every penny will go to a dog in
need. Who knows: Maybe she will even take one out of the shelter, in
honor of her birthday.
