Founded in 2014, the Second Hand Dog Rescue has rescued and rehomed over 5000 pets. We primarily help dogs but have helped some cats and other domestic animals along the way. We operate solely through adoption fees and donations and get no government funding. 

The current situation in our society right now is that people are surrendering their pets at record numbers and we are struggling to get the funds and fosters to help them. 

Just in the last month we’ve taken in 33 local surrenders and saved 6 litters of moms and pups that would have surely died in the shelter. There are currently not enough rescues to save even very adoptable animals and we take on some of the more difficult cases in addition to the “easy “ ones.

We need foster homes to house the pets in our care -you can open your home to help!

We also need donations of dog food, puppy pads, treats, toys, clean used linens and towels, and other pet supplies which can be dropped or mailed to 276 Cedarwood terrace Rochester NY 14609. By giving to this fundraiser we get immediate access to funds to help the 6 senior dogs getting surgery today on this GivingTuesday and the 10 pups and mom who got vetting yesterday. Also the Heartworm positive dog who received her first injection to kill the deadly parasites. The 35 dogs lined up to get spayed and neutered in December to help stop the epidemic of pet overpopulation.
