UPDATE!

With your generous donations we have been able to raise enough to get Chula’s surgery!!! There’s an ophthalmology clinic in Mexico City that is meant to be excellent and the whole surgery is just a smidge more than we’ve raised! Here in Vancouver the surgery is still out of reach financially- so we’re thinking outside the box to make it happen! We leave this Sunday and all being well Chula will be on her way to recover soon after! It’s warmed our hearts receiving the beautiful and kind messages of support- we know Chula is special and are so happy she has also given so many of you joy! Thank you!!

We are Kim and Neil, and we are humbly reaching out to our community for help with our sweet dog Chula’s urgent eye surgery. Alongside our other pup, Rosco, we welcomed Chula into our home two years ago after she was rescued in Mexico. At the time, we were told she was about 2 ½ years old, but last year her eyes started clouding over rapidly and our ophthalmologist determined recently that she’s likely closer to 10!

Chula is so much more than just a pet—she is family. She’s Kim’s emotional support animal and the heart of her physiotherapy clinic, Rae Physiotherapy & Pilates, where she spreads love, cuddles, and pure joy to everyone she meets. Whether greeting clients at the door, bringing comfort during tough days, or making us all laugh with her sassy antics, Chula has a special way of brightening lives. Without fail, people stop in the street to say hello because she has such a sweet energy and she always leaves them with a big smile.

Chula’s vision has been declining, and though she’s a great sport about it, she now misses more than half the balls we throw for her and is clearly struggling. She isn’t in much pain—at least, she wasn’t until last week, when her left eye suddenly worsened. Despite eye drops 4x a day for the last year, the vet confirmed it’s worsened and has ulcerated, a sign that her Endothelial Cell Degeneration is progressing quickly and without surgery, she will continue to lose her vision and have pain if it continues to ulcerate.

We have always had pet insurance for both our pups, but unfortunately, after many phone calls and emails, they are refusing to cover the procedure, calling it a pre-existing condition. Her surgery is estimated at $7,500, and while we’re working extra hard ourselves to contribute, we need help to give Chula the surgery as soon as possible.
