Mushu’s Story and Background 

Mushu is more than just a pony. This sweet 12-year-old gelding has been the heart of countless first horse experiences at Nieman Ranch and Rescue. For the past four years, he has patiently carried young riders, helped nervous children build confidence, and introduced many future horse lovers to the joy of showing horses.

Known as the "go-to" leaderline pony, Mushu has a special gift for making children feel safe, capable, and proud. Whether it is a child's very first ride or their first horse show, Mushu has been there every step of the way, helping create memories and life lessons that will last forever. His gentle nature and steady personality have made him a beloved ambassador for growing the youth equine community.

 

Mushu' s Current Needs to Thive

On September 5, 2026 Mushu faced a life-threatening emergency and underwent colic surgery. Thanks to quick action and excellent veterinary care, he has been given a chance to recover, but his journey is not over. He now needs ongoing medical care, rehabilitation, and support as he heals. Mushu has spent years taking care of others. Now it is our turn to take care of him.

 

How to Help!

Nieman Ranch & Rescue is currently seeking donation to help with Mushu' s care. Donations can be made to the rescue directly in Mushu’s name on this page. If you would like to donate any supplies for Mushu’s round the clock care, please reach out to Mariah at 303-880-3150. We appreciate our horse community rallying around our sweet pony.
