A wonderful shelter, in Brazil, who we have helped in the past, received an urgent request to rescue an extremely emaciated, sick Pitbull off the streets of Porto Canoa.
This poor baby weighs only 39 pounds when he should weigh about 60.
He was so weak, he was not moving at all and did not attempt to eat the bread they held out to him.
The rescuer said that when she approached him, she had the feeling that he had already given up and was ready to die.
So she told him:" Hold on for a little longer, as we are here to save you." She said that at that moment it was like he understood and totally surrendered to her.
Ignorant people in Brazil are very scared of Pitbulls and we do not know what he suffered on the street but we know it was bad and we know this has been going on for a long time.
His left ear is severely bruised and we only imagine that someone threw a rock at him. One of his paws is very infected and full of maggots.
He has kidney and liver disease and distemper. All is not lost though. We can't give up on him. We need to be quick and get him treatment. This shelter should only have 40 dogs, they have 55; 56 with this poor baby.
We are sorry his photo's are so disturbing but as we say this has been going on a long time and he is in very bad shape.
Of course the heartbreaking thing is, that he is a lovely sweet boy. He is so pathetically grateful for a gentle hand and soothing voice. It brought us all to tears.
Please help. He matters; he's not disposable. He deserves a chance.
Please, please, please donate to this most urgent fundrasier. This rescue is very poor. They are amazing; but are already bursting out of the seams and have several problem dogs there; one having cancer.
