Dodger, the very best of dogs, had to have stomach surgery due to an obstruction. After he came home, he then had a complication which made him very sick with pancreatitis. I hate to have to do this. But what I hate more is not being able to afford the sudden expenses to support my number one, ride-or-die boy, who would (and… tries to) stand between me and danger every single day. Even yesterday, when I was in tears as they admitted him back into the hospital, and even as he had zero energy, was hunched and shaking and heavily panting, he looked up at me with those eyes, knowing I was upset. He pulled against the doctor trying to lead him back in, and she commented on how he saw that I was in distress and wanted to help me.
He went a week without eating, lost a lot of weight, had to be readmitted to the dog hospital, is on 4 or 5 different medications as well as special food, and I can’t turn back now on his care. The daily charges keep mounting. According to a friend with experience, his vet care would have been a quarter of the costs, had we still lived in his homeland of Montana, but in California, the fees are exorbitant.
