Bandit's K9Care Inc. hasn't added a story.
Ellie and Haley are Corgis who belonged to a breeder in southern Missouri. Their owner passed away suddenly, leaving nine Corgis behind to fend for themselves without food or water until they were discovered alone 5 days later. A local cattle dog breeder had space in her kennel to take them all in, and with the help of some wonderful people in rescue some of the dogs were re-homed.
One of those rescue people, Cathy McCord, took in a few of the dogs so they could be vetted and prepared for their trips to their new homes. They included Ellie, a 3 year old red and white Pembroke, and Haley, a 17 month old merle Pembroke/ Cardigan mix. Ellie was set to fly out with another Corgi to her new home when the vet determined that she had heartworms and other parasites, and Haley had them as well. And it was also discovered that Ellie was pregnant.
It was therefore decided that both Corgis would remain with Cathy in order to receive medical treatment. And in the case of Ellie, until the the puppies were born, weaned and good homes found for them. Ellie will then begin her heartworm treatment, remaining in foster care until it is completed.
Ellie has since delivered her puppies, which happened sooner than anticipated given what the vet saw in ultrasounds. Although Ellie had been carrying 7 puppies, one was stillborn, and sadly three more passed despite all efforts to save them. The three remaining puppies (2 females and a male) are vigorous and thriving at this time.
If all goes well the puppies will be adopted out when they are old enough, and then Ellie will begin her heartworm treatment. Haley has already begun the treatment protocol, taking antibiotics and being fed a healthy diet to add some weight so that she will be stronger when they give her the fast kill injections.
Your donations will be used to cover the cost of the heartworm
treatments as well as the medical costs of the puppies. Donations from
an earlier fundraiser were used to pay for the diagnostics and initial
care of Ellie and Haley.
