Secondhand dog rescue has been helping many dogs and some cats since we were incorporated in 2014. Over 4000 pets have found their forever home through the efforts of our volunteers. While our focus is dogs we will step up for local cats in the Rochester area when we can and on September 1st 2022 (while our founder was at urgent care for a sinus infection) an urgent call came in to her that there was an injured cat with her tiny kitten lying in the road with inability to walk well and animal control wasn't responding. The caller was unwilling to take the cat in herself and we put out a plea on Facebook for a cat rescue to help but just as we are overwhelmed with dogs in need our local cat rescues are full to the rim. So one of our dedicated supporters and previous adopters ran out late evening to scoop the cat and her kitten up to safety for the night.
The next day our long time vets at York animal hospital squeezed us in a packed schedule and diagnosed the mommy kitty with a broken pelvis and dual broken rear legs. One of the awesome staff members offered to take the mom kitty and work on rehabbing her and preparing her to under go a double FHO (femoral head removal of her hip bones to allow her more movement and less pain) The injury is probably an old injury and she is in a ton of pain.
Our goal is to raise the roughly 3000$ that will take to fund her double surgery that our vet is planning on preforming once she becomes more healthy.
