Who Are We
February Star Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, family-run sanctuary with a mission to rescue, rehabilitate, rehome and provide refuge for horses and cats in need. We strive to improve the overall health and quality of life for horses and cats by addressing issues such as animal abandonment, animal abuse, cat overpopulation and the high numbers of shelter intake and euthanasia. Each year, we rescue and care for several hundred horses and cats. February Star Sanctuary achieves success through equine and feline adoptions, fostering and refuge, TNR services and caring for cats of homeless women/families and victims of domestic violence. Additionally, we host horseback riding and horsemanship programs for youth, equine programs for disabled adults and kids, as well as programs at nursing homes for senior citizens. February Star Sanctuary gives the unwanted a safe, secure home and builds a generation of animal advocates, one child at a time. We believe rescue isn't just a verb, it's a promise.
| December Donation DaysAs a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we rely heavily on tax deductible donations from generous supporters, like you. Every dollar donated is integral to our mission. Our goal of helping as many horses and cats as possible is a big task. We can’t save them alone. That’s where you come in. When you donate in December, your monetary contribution will go directly toward veterinary and rehabilitation costs for our rescue horses and cats. We rescue several off-track thoroughbreds throughout the year and are accredited by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. When horses arrive at our rescue, especially off-track thoroughbreds, companions and those retired from competing, they often require significant veterinary care and rehabilitation (e.g., medication, joint care, X-ray bone scans, chiropractic services). When cats arrive, they usually need extensive veterinary help, such as respiratory care. If you have family and friends who would also love to help save the lives of vulnerable horses and cats, please encourage them to donate, too. | Why It's Important to HelpHorses are one of the four most commonly abused, neglected and abandoned animals in the U.S.. There are over 200,000 “unwanted” horses per year - not including the thousands of unreported cases of neglect and abuse. Also, in the U.S., approximately 3.4 million cats are abandoned each year and nearly 40% of those abandoned cats are euthanized. February Star Sanctuary is dedicated to bettering the lives of horses and cats throughout our region. |
