When crisis strikes, who rescues the rescuers? As an equine rescue owner who recently faced sudden job loss, I reached out to existing emergency safety nets for basic board support—only to find an empty space where help should be.
The traditional system focuses solely on the animal, completely ignoring the human heartbeat at the other end of the lead rope. This fundraiser is for the dedicated horse owners and rescuers who are actively traumatized by the threat of forced separation from their horses due to financial hardship.
We are launching a movement to fill this exact gap. True animal welfare means considering the financial and emotional survival of the owner alongside the physical safety of the horse. We refuse to let poverty break the bond between horses and the humans who love them. We are together in this statement. United we stand—for our horses, and for each other.
